The emissions from the “Omsky kauchuk”plant will be decreased by 86%, as a result of the modernization

The reconstruction of the cumene production at the “Omsky kauchuk” plant will be completed soon. In accordance with the experts report, the new best available technologies use at the production allows reducing the environmental impact by 86% or 8 times compared with the previous methods.

The large-scale cumene (isopropylbenzene) production reconstruction project is directed on the every production process stage efficiency improvement including environmental protection.

To achieve these purposes at the projecting stage, experts from the Bashkir State Institute for the Design of Oil Refining and Petrochemical Enterprises made calculations which showed that the transition to the best available technology at the cumene production allows to reduce the atmospheric air impact by 86%. This project documentation got the favorable conclusion from the General Board of State Expert Review of Russian Federation through the established procedure.

The new technology of the isopropylbenzene production at the “Omsky kauchuk”plant satisfies the requirements of the actual guide of the best available technologies, which  reflects the most modern methods of obtaining basic organic chemicals.

“Earlier we used the aluminum chloride as a catalyst to produce isopropylbenzene. It resulted in the additional wastes of the production but at that time it was the most ecological technology. And now, after the reconstruction, the method of alkylation of benzene with propylene in the presence of zeolite catalysts will be used. This chemical process allows significantly reducing the atmosphere impact. The technologies are the most modern ones nowadays, which can be used”notes the Advisor to the General Director for Industrial Safety, Labor Protection and Environment of АО “Omsky kauchuk”Peter Fine.

We should remind that the aforementioned production has been operating at the plant since 1964.
