“The new mechanism of non-state legal regulation takes into account the interests of the state, industry and the public,” Alexey Obukhov, Deputy General Director for Legal Affairs of the AO GC Titan, said at the “Industrial Ecology” Forum.

“For industrial companies, the eco-standard means independent determination of modernization scale of production facilities, taking into account financial and resource opportunities. For the state and society, it means more shortened time-lines for reducing environmental load than by existing methods of state regulation,” Alexey Obukhov emphasized.

He added that a significant eco-standard’s advantage is the involvement of community activists in the enterprise’s work and the opportunity to tell the population about the real situation at the place of production.

The AO GC Titan's sites modernization, provided for by eco-standard, made it possible to reduce the environmental load. Thus, modernization of isopropylbenzene production at the plant “Omsky kauchuk” has led to a reduction in air pollutant emissions by more than 85 percent.

“The eco-standard can be implemented by any company wishing to reduce its environmental impact. It is a smoother and at the same time more effective method of achieving the goals of the national project “Ecology”, Alexey Obukhov, Deputy General Director for Legal Affairs of the AO GC Titan summed up.
